Dr Tom Van Aken MD hails from the Bronx of New York City. He was educated by the Christian Brothers from grades 1-12, then at Manhattan College and the Catholic University of America where he studied comparative theology, philosophy, biology and psychology. During college he served as a volunteer ambulance corpsman in New Jersey and as an auxiliary Patrolman with the NYPD, receiving commendations for bravery in both areas.
 

Dr Van Aken then attended and graduated from Touro College with a second B.S. in Health Sciences in a groundbreaking Physician Assistant Program. His passion for medicine led him to pursue his medical training at the Universidad del Nor Este in Mexico, and at Mt Sinai Hospital in NYC. He was awarded his MD degree from the University of the State of New York and soon after completed a Post Graduate Fellowship in Psychiatry at St. Lukes/Columbia University.
 

Dr Van Aken developed a successful private practice spanning over three decades north of NYC. Specializing in geriatrics, dementia and general psychiatry, he became known for his expertise in treating a range of mood disorders, anxiety, OCD, depression and eating disorders.
 

Recently Dr Van Aken embarked on a new chapter in his life, partially retiring and relocating to Georgia with his beloved wife. In their free time they enjoy exploring the great outdoors, kayaking, hiking and RVing across the country while visiting their two sons and families.
